Like all of his work La Lune Sans le Chapeau pays tribute to Man Ray because Philippe Starck always needs to carry out his work in a social, cultural and artistic context. Indeed Man Ray designed La lune sous le chapeau in 1974 for Simon Gavina in collaboration with Giulietto Cacciari. La Lune Sans le Chapeau revisits the simplicity of Man Ray’s lamp: a lampshade comprising a rolled sheet of paper and placed on a metal structure. La Lune Sans le Chapeau is probably the most rare object designed by Philippe Starck due to the delicate paper and light structure.
