In 1986, Shiro Kuramata designed How High the Moon, Apple Honey, Sing Sing Sing chairs, Gaetano Pesce designed the Airport lamp, Philippe Starck designed Lola Mundo chair, etc. It’s hard to imagine that a 27-year-old designer suddenly took a completely different direction that same year. In 1986 Jasper Morrison was still very young. He nonetheless had a very clear vision. In 1981, having witnessed the success of the Memphis group in Milan at the Salone, he rapidly reached the conclusion that it was necessary to break away from the direction in which many designers were heading towards to develop more modest and essential work. There are objects from this period with a very poetic element made from existing elements. In the mid-80s Jasper Morrison began to work with the brand SCP. Dining Chair is the first Jasper Morrison chair to be produced industrially, even if it is extremely scarce. It also launched the work that Jasper Morrison carried out reinterpreting existing works. Dining Chair was inspired by Jacobus Johannes Pieter Oud’s 1927 chair.
