Is it a sculpture or a floor lamp? The Gala lamp designed by Ettore Sottsass for the Mobili Lunghi exhibition illustrates this recurring question of the type we question at A1043. Gala addresses two aspects key to lighting, the verticality and the light source. Gala has no base and must therefore be placed against a wall. The light bulbs, chosen for their shape, are not concealed forming two stances that run counter to traditional interpretations of a floor lamp. Like Jagati and Pattica, lamps in the same series, Gala primarily uses PL9compact fluorescent light bulbs here with an E27 red incandescent light bulb.
