In addition to being a great Italian design historian, at the start of her professional career Giuliana Gramigna was a great luminaire designer. The Otero model is a perfect example of her work that can be summarised as an attachment to traditional forms revived by materials and formal rigour. Otero is therefore a reinterpretation of the end of 19th century lamp with a glass-beaded fringe.
