The interesting thing about Nathalie du Pasquier is not just one, two or three objects it’s the continuation and entirety of this artist’s career. Since the Memphis years she has constructed a body of works that are at first glance disparate, but in fact perfectly logical. Nathalie du Pasquier was ultimately only a designer during the Memphis years. The group disbanded in 1988, a year after she had decided to focus primarily on painting. The Nat.7 vase designed in 1989 represents this transition. The Nat.7 vase is an object developed by a designer but reinterpreted by a painter. It is an ambiguous object as much with respect to the history of decorative arts as the history of art. But in essence they share the same history don’t they?
